Vintage Dog Lover: Marilyn Monroe

Danamo's Marilyn Monroe Online has a fact page devoted to Marilyn's Pets. Her dogs included a spaniel, a collie, a basset hound, and a chihuahua.

She is pictured here with her last dog, Maf Honey, a Maltese given to her by Frank Sinatra. She named the dog "Maf" because of Sinatra's mafia connections. Maf was a pampered dog who was even allowed to sleep on Marilyn's fur coat, and was Marilyn's pet until her death in 1962.

Denis Leary's Dogs

Denis Leary was a guest on "Rachael Ray" this morning, and discussed his dogs - he has five! He told Rachael he has the biggest dog breed, an Irish Wolfhound named Clancy that weighs over 160 lbs. He also gave his daughter a Chihuahua, which he said "is the size of this fork." The Chihuahua and Irish Wolfhound are best friends (awwww), and the chihuahua is Denis's favorite, even though he has never had a dog that small before.

Rachael also mentioned her dog, Isaboo, a female red nose pitbull. She and Denis might walk their dogs together.

Lauren & Sophie Bacall

Lauren Bacall and her papillon, Sophie, attended the opening night gala of the Dallas International Film Festival on March 22.

According to Contact Music, Bacall spends all of her time with Sophie, whom she calls her "partner."

Says Bacall:"Sophie is very intelligent, sweet and gives me unconditional love - you could never find a man like that! I am very happy to wake up to find her on my chest, licking my face."

Celebrity Dogs Learn Sign Language

Nominees and presenters at the 2007 Academy Awards received gift baskets including the Mimic Mutt "Doggy Language" DVD, which teaches them how to teach their dogs sign language.

Jane & Tulea Fonda

Jane Fonda brought along her dog, Tulea, when she spoke at The Smart Talk Women's Lecture Series 2007 in New Brunswick, New Jersey on February 28.

According to Avacado Fever, Jane brings Tulea everywhere with her, so she doesn't miss her grandkids.

Katharine & Nena McPhee Share Puppy Love

Katharine-McPhee.Net has a precious picture of Kat getting up close and personal with her chihuahua, Nena, at a recording studio.

Katharine also has a black lab named Lilly.

Naomi, Bob & Ned Watts

Just Jared has a funny picture of Naomi Watts wrapped up in the leashed of her dogs, Bob and Ned.

Bob is a Yorkshire Terrier. Ned is a Cocker Spanier

Like a lot of dog owners (including me), Naomi conveniently cleans up after her pups with bags she carries in a Bags on Board container. They are useful and reasonably priced - just $5.99 at Petsmart.

Abigail Breslin's Puppy

The L.A. Times has an adorable picture of Abigail Breslin and her poodle mix at the 2006 Los Angeles Film Festival Premiere of Little Miss Sunshine in July. She has another dog as well that didn't make it to the screening.

Celebrity Breed: Maltipoo

One of the popular breeds in Hollywood these days is the Maltipoo. A "designer breed", the Maltipoo is a mix between a Maltese and Poodle. According to Wikipedia, an increase in the breeding of these cutie pies occured because of their popularity with celebs - most notably with Jessica Simpson who purchased Daisy on reality TV.

Other famous Maltipoo moms include Ashlee Simpson (Blondie), Ashley Tisdale (Blondie), Ellen Degenerous (Wolf), Michelle Kwan (Tofu & Ginseng), and Parker Posey (Gracie).

Be Like Bowie, Sid & Nancy Alba

Active dog owner Jessica Alba took two dogs - Bowie, and a pug who is either Sid or Nancy - to a dog park on January 15.

One of the accessories Jessica often brings to the park is a Chuckit! Ball Launcher. It comes in a variety of colors and sizes, and makes it easy to exercise your dog without wearing yourself out. Other celebrities sighted with this gadget include Josh Duhamel & Fergie, and Leonardo DiCaprio. You can pick one up yourself for about $15.

Jessica also brings some bling with Bowie's sparkling leash.

Glamour Dog carries a similar product, a Swarovski Crystal Retractable Lead. It comes in Pink or White, and is available for dogs up to 45 lbs. Price ranges from $159.95 to $279.95. Now THAT'S fancy.
